What to Expect on Your Baptism Day
COMMON QUESTIONS
Baptism is a meaningful step following faith in Jesus Christ. It’s a public celebration of moving from death to life through faith in Him. At Stonecreek, we believe it’s one of the most significant “next steps” after someone chooses to follow Jesus.
“Many of the people who heard Him believed and were baptized.” – Acts 18:8
We baptize by immersion (going under water) because the Greek word “baptize” means to immerse or dip, and every water baptism described in Scripture follows that pattern.
“Then both Philip and the man went down into the water … when they came up out of the water” (Acts 8:38-39).
We also want to model what Jesus did: “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.” (Matthew 3:16)
Anyone who has believed in Jesus Christ should be baptized. Once someone believes and has put their faith in Jesus, we encourage them to be baptized as soon as they’ve trusted in Christ — there’s no need to wait.
“Those who believed … were baptized that day!” (Acts 2:41)
If the decision has been made, you’re ready.
At Stonecreek, we don’t practice infant baptism. We wait until a child is old enough to personally understand what it means to follow Jesus and make that decision on their own.
If your child has expressed genuine faith in Jesus and wants to be baptized, we’d love to walk with your family through that process! We offer a Kids’ Baptism Class designed to help parents and children explore what baptism means and ensure your child understands this important step.
For younger children who haven’t yet made that personal decision, we offer Parent-Child Dedication, where parents commit to raising their children in faith until they’re ready to make that choice themselves. If that is something you are interested in, you can contact Marina Meisner at the link below.
Yes — if your baptism was after you believed in Christ and served as a public declaration of your commitment, we celebrate that with you! There's no need to be baptized again.
That said, because Stonecreek practices baptism by immersion, if your previous baptism was by sprinkling or another method and you’d like to follow our practice, we'd be glad to talk with you about taking that step here.
Once you’ve submitted your interest form, someone from our Baptism Team will reach out to walk you through next steps, answer questions, and ensure you feel ready and supported.
On your baptism day, you’ll be assigned a Baptism Coach, who will guide you through where to be, what to expect, and helps to ensure your Baptism Day is smooth and meaningful.
Most importantly — your church family can't wait to celebrate you and the life-changing decision you've made to follow Jesus!
